Worldviews Conference

The Worldviews conference on Media and Higher Education ran this past weekend in Toronto. I had the good financial fortune to serve as a volunteer, saving me literally hundreds of dollars admission to circulate with a remarkable list of luminaries in both media and academia.
The best empirical/intellectual value to me was to hear what discourses were circulating, how issues were framed and even think about what panels were where and populated by whom. When it comes to deep understanding, there ain’t nothing like full-on participant observation.
The best pragmatic value was a chance to hang out with younger media/comm people who were all about the knowledge share on multimedia technology and applications. After attending academic conferences in communications and journalism for years, it was a bit of a surprise to build my mobile media skills here.
I’m going to come up with a couple of posts in the coming week that reflect upon issues raised at the conference. Until then, check out the great liveblogging done by Melonie Fullick.
